TANDEM got an eurocertificate to sell in Europe

Ekaterina Stoilova, 6 February 2008, 22:01

The meat processing enterprise TANDEM received International food standard (IFS), which will guarantee its products easier access to the European markets. This was announced by the company managing director Byanca Veleva at the formal receiving of the certificate by the Dutch organization ISA CERT.

The standard was introduced six years ago by French and German commercial chains, which, to guarantee the food products quality, insist on their suppliers to observe definite production rules. The companies from the meat, milk, preserving and bread branch have to dispose with built infrastructure, modern manufacturing capacities and security for the raw materials delivery, which can guarantee the production safety. “TANDEM has been working for a long time, observing these rules, that are why we decided to support it with the certificate, required by the tradesmen”, explained the company owner Cyril Vatev. Our managers researched the possibilities for trade in Europe awhile ago and after the receiving of the certificate our goods are expected to enter the foreign markets.

The German wholesale chain METRO declared to the Bulgarian companies, that before the end of the year they have to introduce IFS. This certificate unites all standards for good production practices and work organization as HACCP, ISO etc. At this stage only about twenty companies have received it, and the process is starting from now on, consultants explained.

Five certificating organization work in the country, they can exercise control and issue the necessary document. The Dutch ISA CERT has certified only seven companies from the meat and preserving industry. Ten more producers are passing under the procedure. Companies which want to export apply, and our first customers were preserving frozen fruit enterprises and honey manufacturers, explained Vishan Krainov, commercial manager of the Bulgarian representation of ISA CERT.
